What is Dialysis

When the kidneys stop working properly, and this can happen for a number of reasons, the doctor will resort to putting a patient on dialysis. This is a procedure to remove excess fluid and waste products from the blood, a function that would otherwise be done automatically by the kidneys.

Under normal circumstances, properly functioning kidneys should filter the blood, remove harmful excess fluid and waste products and turn these toxic products into urine, sent to the bladder, which is later expelled from the body.
